555 Assessing and Controlling Hexavalent Chromium Exposure from Welding

Instructor: Jerome E. Spear, CSP, CIH, J.E. Spear Consulting, LP, Magnolia, TX

Description: This presentation focuses on potential exposures to Cr(VI) from welding processes. An overview of welding fume assessment and control will be discussed, including an overview of common welding processes and their relative fume generation rates. Considerations for using local exhaust ventilation to control welding fumes will be provided. An update on regulatory issues regarding OSHA’s Cr(VI) requirements will also be reviewed. Several case studies will be presented to provide insight on typical Cr(VI) exposures from welding activities.
