717 Cognitive Ergonomics and the Older Worker: Training that Works!

Instructor: Alma M. Jackson, Ph.D., RN, COHN-S, Colorado Safety Works, Inc., Grand Junction, CO

Description: Think you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Yes you can. This presentation focuses on a new area of effective training that fits the workers’ cognitive abilities to the work environment. Cognitive ergonomics improves safety training and performance in every area from work to home. Older workers learn differently and these changes occur after age 40. This session will go beyond adult learning principles to provide demonstration and application of situated learning and brain-based learning. Real world work examples of environmental changes, from computer software to classroom training that enhance learning will be presented.
