742 Avoiding Common Mechanical Integrity Mistakes

Instructor: Glenn G. Young, CSP, Glenn Young & Associates, LLC, Baton Rouge, LA

Description: OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) of Highly Hazardous Chemicals standard (CFR-1910.119) consists of 14 elements. The Mechanical Integrity (MI) element of PSM is by far the most frequently cited element of the standard. This session focuses on common mistakes that companies make with their MI programs, including specific OSHA citations. Chemical Safety Board incident reports and shortcomings from internal and external non-regulatory PSM audits will illustrate additional errors. By identifying and recognizing shortcomings in their own MI programs, attendees should be better prepared to improve the mechanical integrity of their process equipment. Attendees will leave this session with an enhanced understanding of both the regulatory requirements of OSHA’s standard and current industry practices.
