536 Risk Management of Occupational Disabling Injuries: Beyond Ergonomics

Instructor: Astra C. Townley, CSP, ARM, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Lawndale, CA

Description: Musculoskeletal injuries (MSDs) are a significant source of disabling occupational injuries that result in suffering to employees in the workplace. These types of injuries result in costly workers’ compensation claims and account for the majority of lost workdays. While one of the primary controls for MSDs are ergonomic interventions, other factors within an organization should be considered to decrease the severity of MSDs. This presentation will demonstrate the effectiveness of using risk management techniques to identify and implement additional controls to address disabling occupational injuries.
